Artist Statement

As a photographer, I think my goal is to perceive and make visible the slow, relentless and barely-seen passage of time, to capture the mystery of the moment, of what is about to happen or what is about to pass, and to collect and preserve meaningful visual artifacts for the future. While much of my work tends to be documentary, I also enjoy making photographs that investigate the boundaries between the real and unreal, the possible and impossible, exploring the thin line that separates the everyday and the imaginary. It’s a little like alchemy; with luck, the untethered, liberated images behave like kites, and give rise to a sense of suspended disbelief, while revealing the magic in the ordinary. My goal as an artist is to free the psyche and re-invent the dream. I want my photographs to inspire and communicate a fresh sense of wonder.
